Thanks Cool Mom Picks!

Today I was featured on a very cool blog: Cool Mom Picks, on one of today's posts Betsy talks about my brooches and what she liked about them... She thinks they are Carrie Bradswaw's worthy (Danita blushes) Today I'm sold out of them, but worry no more, I'm making more and they will be listed tomorrow are available in my Etsy shop for you to check out.

I have a bad head cold, but my obsessive side has not let me stop working. In a little while more I'm going to bed, but not before I finish them brooches.... I've been busy, you know? I got an art attack and I went to bed last night after 4:00 AM because I HAD to try out some ideas the book gave me, and I just loooove the result, beautiful collage encaustic works. Here's a preview of them:

And last, but not least, a couple of dolls that have been on my mind for some time. I had not crystallized the idea in my mind until a couple of days ago and I set myself to making them... Once I get an idea, I just cannot stop until it's finished. What do you think?

All these works are available for sale on my Etsy shop go check them out!

What has happened with the weight loss?

Nothing. Nada. Zero. Nadita, nadita. I've been stuck in the same weight for 2 months. I've only lost 2 pounds. 2 pounds in 2 months!!!! Buaaaaaaa!!! But is all my fault. I've been focusing in other things and have forgotten to pay attention to my diet and the exercise. And when you don't pay attention this things happen. Gaining weight is soooo easy! But for losing it you must make an effort. Luckyly I haven't gained any weight. And my BMI remains the same. But I have to focus even more. I have to take advantage of this balloon as long as it is inside me or else I will have still many pounds to lose when they remove it and then I'll have it really difficult. I will get hungry again. And that's not a good thing. I knew it.

Seems like the easiest thing to uncare for is oneself when you have so many things to care for. I'll have to write a reminder. I need to put myself first in order to be able to take care of everything else...

Thank you for the great advice!

I'd like to thank you all for the help you gave me with my sleepless daughter! I read very valuable advice in there! I'm going to do many of the things you said, I think she's ready to move to a big girls bed... I really appreciate you taking the time to write and give me advice :)

In other news, my parents are here! I love when they're here!! We went to the zoo the and we had a lot of fun. It's great to see my daughter with their grandparents playing like they were all kids. After that, a sweet treat makes everybody happy :)

I'm also remodeling my studio... I'm a rat pack and this place was FULL of useless things... we took about 4 big boxes of trash that was sitting here around or under the table. This place was calling for a serious clean up! I'm still in the middle of that... and I know that as soon as I get my working routine again it will again be messy... but at least it will be pretty too :)

Happy week everybody!

Jewelry Sneak Peek

Hello there!

Mr. Danita here.... Danita is at the zoo with our daughter and her grandparents, so I took a chance to sneak on her computer and show a new set of jewelry she's been working on. We are going to list them on Danita's Etsy Shop Tomorrow Sat. 24th @ 2:00 PM EST, so stay tuned and grab them while they are available.

They are really beautiful, they are made using natural stone and glass beads, with beautiful settings in silver and brass and reproduction of her favorite paintings and illustrations. Also, she made some plastic charms, with original handmade illustrations in ink... One of a kind!

I you're still thinking about a valentine's gift, you can drop a hint to your loved one that you want it (wink) Scroll down to see the pics, or go to Danita's flickr photostream for the whole collection, Just don't tell her I showed them to you!

Have a great Day... See you tomorrow at the store!

Hello again! I'm back!!

It's been 8 days already! Where have I been, you wonder? Here. Haven't moved a bit. But lately I've been more of a dreamer than a doer. I have so many projects in my mind and I haven't done a thing! Well I've done little things, like new jewelry and I'm also working in some new and different dolls... but it's all been so sporadic that I don't really consider it work as I'm used to. I'm still catching up with last year stuff (yes, can you believe it?). The culprit of all this? My daughter. She refuses to nap lately. And I'm potty training her... so whenever I put her in her crib to take her nap she starts screaming that she needs to pee... and once she goes she starts scraming "I want another booootleeeeee mom!!! Fill it up!!!!!!!"... If I accept, she will request to go pee again, as she refuses to sleep with her diaper wet (Altough she doesn't mind playing Wii or watching TV with it!!). And If I don't refill it I have to hear screams and more screams. Then she will say she's hungry and she wants something to eat. Or she would simply refuse to go to sleep at all. "Me awake. Me no sleep" she says.... oh well.... I hope she goes back to her routine again or else I'd go crazy.... We have to do a lot of stuff to keep her busy and in the afternoon she's all cranky and I'm even more. Once is time for work I don't want anything but go to sleep. Any advise my experienced readers out there? I know many of you have been through this. Please help me!!!!

The little prince and the fox

One of my favorite books from all times is The Little Prince. I find it full of wisdom for life and has helped me in countless occasions to remember what's more important in life. The part I like the most is when the Little Prince and the fox meet, and the later explains what tame is:

"to me, you are still nothing more than
a little boy who is just like
a hundred thousand other little boys.
And I have no need of you.
And you, on your part, have no need of me.
To you I am nothing more
than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes.
But if you tame me, then we shall need each other.
To me, you will be unique in all the world.
To you, I shall be unique in all the world. . ."

I find this to be very true. I was looking at my husband and my daughter playing with our dogs in the park and I was thinking the exact same thing. There are lots of men, lots of children and lots of dogs in the world, but to me, they are unique.

I made this doll inspired by that part of the book, but I made her woman because I am ;)
Maybe someday I'll make the little prince as well. (Available for sale on Danita's Etsy Shop)

CPSIA: Handmade Goods Need Your Help!

Hand Made Goods are facing a tough time in the next few months. A new law called CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) is about to be implemented, and is threatening all the handmade items that could come in contact with children.

The law was created to protect children from the issues that have raised from all the Chinese imports containing harmful chemicals like Lead. The contaminated toys posed a thread and the US Government stepped in, creating a law that demands that all items that may come in contact with children to be tested for those harmful chemicals.

The problem with the law it covers such a broad number of items and the description is so vague and extensive that in reality demands that anything that a child may be attracted to (Like my dolls, although they are not intended to be toys, just decorative items) must, by law, be tested
via a prohibitively expensive process that is unaffordable to small crafters and artists like me, and many other who sell on Etsy and many other places, even if we can prove that our process only uses materials certified as non toxic.

I urge you to contact your authorities to let them know that the law needs extensive revisions to take in account people like Independent Artists who create one of a kind items, as well as small shops, hard working moms and artisan families who depend on the income generated by our hand made goods to support our families.

You can read more about CPSIA by following these links:

Holidays are over!

I can't believe the Holidays are over already. I love that time of the year so much that I wasn't ready to let it go just yet. I'm already removing my decorations and it's kind of sad. I love the lights and the tree... maybe that's why I leave my small tree in my studio the whole year... The good news is that the next holiday has my favorite colors! Yep, Valentines day!

I change the cover in my kitchen table and the curtains every season and now I found the most lovely ones. Pink, blue and red. My new favorite combination!!! I found the fabric at Hobby Lobby last year and I made a cushion and the curtains... when I came back for more it was gone... and I haven't found more :( (Is the one with the girls in the kitchen)

I also moved around my furniture ... I kind of get bored easily and tend to change the placement of my stuff to make it look new again. It worked this time! One of my New Year's resolutions is to remove some of the clutter and try to live with what I love and get rid of the rest. So far I've disposed of approx. 6 boxes of stuff that was just there, accumulating dust and taking space.

Now I feel better living in a place with more space. I know I will never have a minimalist house. I'm a pack rat and this is the better I'll get. Besides I have a toddler and she leaves her mark anywhere.

As I was saying... she leaves a trail wherever she's been. As I was taking the pictures of one side of the room she had already taken her crayolas and coloring book and installed herself in the dining room...

But that's what homes are for right? To enjoy and actually live in them. So I will keep doing my effort to maintain it welcoming and cozy. She will do her part living in it and enjoying every room :)

I tried to do the same thing with my studio... but that's something else!!! It was great during the Holidays because I wasn't working. I rearranged lots of stuff to gain space also... but as soon as I started working everything got kind of messy again... Anyway. As I was saying, I started painting again! It's soooooo good! My hands were itching and I was getting hysterical from not being able to work! So this is the result of my first formal painting session (on Etsy if anybody is interested):

Sold :)

What do you think? So far I'm very happy with the results!!
