Daydreaming and new work...

I saw this storefront yesterday and couldn't help but dream.  It is empty and the front is wood and it looks old and weathered.  I imagine myself painting there, and taking coffee breaks outside... teaching classes and with a little shop inside with all kinds of beautiful things... a girl can dream, right?  Maybe one day...

Seeing that, I started with the urge to paint larger, with bolder ideas and enjoying the process even more, without caring about anything and just unleashing my creative me on the canvas without any regard to the consequences, feeling like I had to paint for me and only me, starting a journey to new creative lands, so I did. These new paintings will seem different than what I usually make, but I see this as an evolution in my quest to find new ways to create. I invite you to enjoy them and love the freedom I felt when I created them... I wanted to release them today on February 29th because it's a special day that only comes every four years, an extra day to paint and create and enjoy as gift to let my spirit free.

Following those feelings I had that that I should paint bigger, that I should take more risks with my paintings, that I should enjoy the process more (besides I can't take off my mind the song "somewhere over the rainbow") I created this wonderful Mixed Media Painting, I think it is a good result of following my feelings. What do you think?

I love those movies where you watch a lot of interlocked stories, with no central character.  I like to sit and watch people, what they do, what they may be thinking, what's their story.  I can only imagine the quantity of stories a city has.  And I think many of their inhabitants are angels. Angels taking care of the rest of us.

When I started this piece I added first the textured flowers in a random manner... and then I look at the canvas and I saw her, peeking from behind in a garden full of roses.  She said paint me and I did, and she fit perfectly there... almost like I had planned.  But I didn't...

Not so fun weekend... but I have new stuff!

This weekend wasn't fun... I hate it when you make plans and then you get sick and then you have to cancel everything.  I've been having a sharp pain in my belly that turned out to be colitis :(  Very painful and stubborn, it just doesn't go away... The good side is that I got to watch some movies ("Gnomeo and Juliet" and "Eat, Love and Pray") and that Mr. Danita helped me taking pictures of the new cute little bags that just arrived.  I will be posting this in the shop beginning today.  Remember they're one of a kind, so if you see the one you like don't wait until it's gone to decide you wanted it ;)

I hope you had a better weekend than mine, and happy week!

Evolution of a painting....

Spring is in the air... color is invading my work again.

I am very inspired lately by colorful works, like the ones of my friend Mindy Lacefield, which never fail to put a smile on my face.  She is having an upcoming workshop,  I've already joined as soon as she opened the registration and I invite you to joint her class too here.

Seeing lots of colors in beautiful art like hers never fails to make me inspired. I want to paint and use my hands.  I want to make a mess and enjoy the process. I want to get lost in a creative moment.  Watch me in that personal journey of how a painting evolves and progresses as I go along...

It starts as a collaged canvas... random pieces of paper here and there.

An idea is born.  Color and more paper is added.

Gesso makes it's appeareance.

Pencil and pastels complement the color.

Silhouettes are defined.

Text is added.

A painting has finished it's evolution.

Time to clean up.

Nesting dolls

How did you spent your Valentine's Day? I hope it was great!
I made a chocoflan using this recipe and it turned out delicious, and looked just like in the picture! I wish I had taken a picture but it was gone so fast!

I've been also busy making other stuff... some days I make so many things that later I don't know which one to post first.  I have lots of jewelry ready to share too, but that will be later, this three girls here have been waiting for their turn too long and it's time to set them free and find them a good home!

Even since I first painted this girl with her little nesting doll I thought I should made one, I had the blanks somewhere in the studio but I never got around to it until now, and I love how they turned out.

They're 3 very similar girls but with very different personalities. Please don't try to compare them or they will get mad.  They may dress similar but that doesn't make them the same.  They even chose a different color for their babushkas so you could tell them apart.

If you want to adopt this sweet trio, just click here and
you'll be the lucky one to take them home!

Freebie: Love Tags by Danita Art!

The last weekend before Valentine's Day is almost here and I thought that It would be great to spend some time adding some more Love related decor to my house making some Love Tags... and I thought it would be nice to share it with you.  Would you like some?

I made a set of 8 tags that you can use for anything you want, to add a handwritten note to a gift, as a card or, like me, use it to make a quick garland.

I provide the tags and you provide the imagination. You can print as many as you want and you are free to use them for any personal project.

Don't forget to show me what you did with them!

2 More Valentine's Paintings

Love is a theme that doesn't stop inspiring me, Valentine's day or not. I think it's something that should be celebrated all year long! Don't you agree?
I made 2 new paintings:
"Love Potion". 6x8 Inches on Wood.
I read once a short story about a love potion and I loved it so much I made a painting about it. You know, the love potion was part of a collection of potions an alchemist sold. But the Love potion was free, what cost a fortune was the antidote. Imagine having a Love Potion... it would be a very dangerous thing to use, don't you think?

And if you were given the love potion and now you have your heart broken, I made "The heart mender" (8x8 inches on round canvas). Don't worry, she  has the power to put it back together.  She will fix it so well you won't even remember it was once falling apart.

I don't think I will stop making love related paintings during the year, but right now they end the Valentine's Series for this year.

Want one? Grab it here!

The Big Valentine's Update

It's almost Valentine's Day! And I have a ton of things to share with you! I love decorating my home around the Holidays and this one in special I like it more because I have Valentine's stuff hanging around the house all year round (can't blame me, I love hearts, pink and blue!). So I prepared a ton of stuff that I'm sure you'll enjoy as well.  I have new original paintings and ornaments too.  Each of them a unique piece that won't be repeated ... After all, Love should be celebrated all year, not only one day!

Just click on the image and It will take you straight to my shop.

Happy Sunday!

If God gives you lemons...

Lately I've been very busy running errands and doing house chores... Not my favorite kind of stuff to do but someone has to do them and in this case that someone is me. Between all the things that I do one is specially unpleasant to me: doing laundry.  It's weird that now that it's a lot easier because I have an automatic super duper steam washing machine and dryer, I find it less enjoyable.  When I lived with my parents we only had a washing machine... a very old one. One of those Hoover drum washers in the shape of a box and you had to fill it with buckets of water and then to drain it you had to attach a hose and tilt it.

The rinse cycle was by hand, we had to put our clothes in a large tub with fabric softener, and then move it to another full of clear water, and this was my favorite part (not in winter, but the rest of the year it was).  I used to dampen the exposed bricks in the wall back of my parent's house and smell them (And lick them when no one was looking) and then put the damp clothes on my shoulder and hang them in the clothesline.  I really enjoyed doing that, it made it feel very real, and It was fun for me!

I made this piece remembering those good times, when I was more worried about having fun and tasting bricks than having clean clothes. (She's available in my Shop)

With all the housekeeping I felt like doing some housekeeping on my blog  and changed all the buttons... did you notice?  What do you think?
